The Shotgun House
The name “Shot-Gun” House for this type of building is said to be derived from the idea that with the front and back doors in a direct line, a bullet from a gun fired at the front door would go straight out the back door without hitting anything in the house.
This shotgun house was originally on a farm on Highway 201 north of the Baxter Lab. It is not known just how old it is, but Mr. J. W. Bryant, a native of the area, related that he lived in this building with his parents and brother in 1945 and 1946 after he returned from his tour of duty in World War 11. He mentioned that it was an old structure at that time, so it is 80 years old, or more.
